2008 Inspections of Kentucky Watershed Structures

Updated 02/22/2008

This year, the Kentucky Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will be working with local watershed sponsors, such as watershed conservancy districts, to schedule on-site inspections of all watershed dams planned and approved under the authority of the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act of 1954 (P.L. 83-566), and the Flood Control Act of 1944 (P.L. 78-534). This effort is to insure that each watershed structure is compliant with the current operation and maintenance (O&M) agreement and to visually verify the hazard class rating of each structure. NRCS has set a goal to have all 199 dams inspected by April 1, 2008.

NRCS district conservationists will be contacting local sponsors to schedule these inspections. If sponsors have any questions regarding this effort, they should contact their local district conservationist. To find the address and phone number for your local district conservationist, go to the Kentucky NRCS directory at http://www.ky.nrcs.usda.gov/contact/index.html
