J. Field Border: Natural Regeneration Herbicide Required (386)

• To be eligible under this criteria, a herbicide burn down must be planned to eradicate fescue, bromegrass, old world bluestems, bermudagrass and serecia lespedeza in the area planned to the field border. At least 20% of these species should exist in the area proposed for a field border before planning this practice.

• Only cost-share associated with herbicide burn down is authorized for natural regeneration of field borders.

• Field borders will only be planned when the primary land use is cropland, hayland, or pastureland.

• Field borders will be naturally regenerated according to the NRCS Field Border (386) practice standard.

• Field borders shall be between 20 and 120 feet wide.
• Livestock, when present, shall be excluded with a fence according to the fencing standard 382.

• Erosion potential should be considered prior to planning natural regeneration of field borders.
