H. Shallow Water Areas

• The NRCS Wetland Creation (658) practice standard shall be used as needed to create shallow water areas that can be managed according to the Shallow Water Wildlife Habitat Management (646) practice standard.

• Shallow water areas are not authorized in wetlands, or on hydric or hydric inclusion soils were trees are present.

• Shallow water areas are not authorized on areas where the existing slope is greater than 2%. The majority of the area planned for shallow water should be composed of somewhat poorly drained to poorly drained soils that have moderate to slow permeability (less than or equal to 2.0 inches per hour).

• Shallow water areas can be incrementally flooded after August 15th. Water draw down in the spring can begin after start of the growing season.

• Shallow water areas may not be cropped however, 25% of the pool area may be used for annual food plots. The area used for a food plot must be rotated each year.
