D. Prescribed Burning (338)

• Points or cost share for prescribed burning may be awarded for existing native grass stands, planned native grass stands, on areas planned for restoration of remnant prairies or old field regeneration or other areas that need prescribed burning to enhance native plan communities.

• Points or cost share for prescribed burning are not eligible for field borders.

• Prescribe burning cost share ($25/acre/burn) may only be paid once every three years on the same acreage during the contract period. Points can only be awarded once for each acre even if burning is conducted twice.

• Prescribed burning plans from the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR) are not required for ranking purposes. However, a copy of the KDFWR, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), or qualified TSP prescribed burn plan must be in the six part folder before the burning takes place. Cost share will not be paid for burning without a KDFWR, TNC, or qualified TSP prescribed burning plan.

• NRCS personnel are not authorized to prepare burn plans or conduct prescribed burns.

• Only one management practice is allowed for points or cost-share on the same acreage.
