B. Strip Disking and Strip Mowing (645)
• To receive points or cost share, strip mowing and strip disking
have to be done for three consecutive years.
• Strip mowing is not authorized for points or cost-share on fields that
contain greater than 20% fescue, bromegrass, old world bluestems,
bermudagrass and serecia lespedeza.
• Strip disking is authorized for points and cost-share on fescue, bromegrass,
old world bluestems, bermudagrass and serecia lespedeza fields.
• Points or cost share may not be awarded for strip mowing or strip disking
of filter strips, riparian buffers, or field borders.
• Strip disking should only be done after a stand has been through two
growing seasons and the stand is well established.
• Points or cost-share for strip disking or strip mowing may not be awarded
on lands being grazed.
• Strip Disking cost share is $10/acre/year for the entire field for three
years. Strip mowing cost share is $5/acre/year for the entire field for three
years. (ie. A 10 acre field being strip disked would receive $100 in year one,
$100 in year two, and $100 for year three for a total of $300.)
• After establishment, alternate mowing or disking on thirds of the field
annually. Strips should be a minimum of 30 feet to a maximum of 50 feet wide
where possible. See the Wildlife Upland Habitat Standard (645) for detailed
directions on strip management practices.
• Only one management practice is allowed for points or cost-share on the
same acreage.
