Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program (WHIP)

Below are links to the drafts of the 2009 WHIP Handbook and the State Ranking Questions for State Technical Committee review and comment. 

Also attached is the WHIP “At a Glance” fact sheet that provides the 2008 Farm Bill changes to the program.  One change that will affect Kentucky is that State, county or local government-owned lands are now ineligible for WHIP. The other major change that may affect Kentucky is that the WHIP payments may not exceed $50,000 per year; previously there was no limit.  While we haven’t had many contracts of this size, we have had a few.

Comments should be received no later than April 15, 2009 and addressed to State Conservationist Tom Perrin at tom.perrin@ky.usda.gov (with a cc to mason.howell@ky.usda.gov) or mailed to USDA – NRCS, 771 Corporate Drive, Suite 210, Lexington, KY  40503.
