Conservation Reserve Program acres

- The Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) was
initiated in 1985. This program assisted in taking highly erodible
cropland out of crop production and into permanent cover to protect the
soil from erosion.
- In 1987 there were about 204,000 CRP acres in Kentucky. This acreage
more than doubled in 1992 with 423000 acres in CRP. In 1997, the acreage
decreased to about 331,000 acres.
