Mowing and Haying Guidelines for GRP

1) No mowing or haying of filter strips* or field borders** during the primary nesting season dates

            May 1 – August 15.           AND

2) For all grassland/hayland fields, no more than 35 percent of the total grassland acreage of any grass species, can be mowed or hayed

            May 1 – August 15.               OR

3) For all grassland/hayland fields, no more than 50 percent of the total grassland acreage of any grass species, can be mowed or hayed

            May 1 – September 15.      OR

4) No mowing May 15 –June 30 on ALL grassland/hayland fields.

 

 *  A filter strip is a narrow strip of land that lies between the agricultural field and a stream or other water body.

** A field border is a narrow strip of land (usually 20 feet wide) that is adjacent to the agricultural field and the property boundary or other field boundaries.
