Grazing Plan Requirements for GRP

GRP land may be grazed any time during the year following an approved conservation plan. Grazing plan requirements are in two basic categories base on the type of grasses present or planned to be established during the easement period.

The two forage grass categories are cool season grasses and warm season grasses.

Examples of cool season grasses are: Tall Fescue, Orchardgrass, and Bluegrass.

Examples of warm season grasses are: Switchgrass, Big Bluestem, and Indiangrass.

There are many other examples but these are the most common.

1) For cool season grasses, the plan minimum requirements would be to maintain a minimum of 3 to 4 inch stubble height over a minimum of 80% of the enrolled acreage.

2) For warm season grasses, the plan minimum requirements would be to maintain a minimum of 4 to 6 inch stubble height over a minimum of 80% of the enrolled acreage.
