Conservation Security Program (CSP)

Updated 05/19/2008

CSP supports ongoing conservation stewardship of agricultural lands by providing assistance to producers to maintain and enhance natural resources.

The program provides equitable access to benefits to all producers, regardless of size of operation, crops produced, or geographic location.

The Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 (2002 Farm Bill) (Pub. L. 107-171) amended the Food Security Act of 1985 to authorize the program.  CSP is administered by USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).

2006 CSP

Barren Watershed was selected for the 2006 Conservation Security Program. The watershed is shared with Tennessee.  The Barren Watershed includes portions of Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson and Warren Counties in Kentucky, and Clay, Macon, and Sumner Counties in Tennessee. The watershed contain an estimated 5,982 farms and includes 866,783 acres of farmland.
