Kentucky NRCS Employees awarded  Distinguished Service Award

Updated 07/30/2009

At the Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts Annual Meeting Banquet, NRCS Employees were awarded the 2009 Distinguished Service Award.

Tom Perrin, State Conservationist accepted the award for all employees. The award is for the service and immediate response during the January ice storm and the more recent heavy rains and flooding which occurred in May and June. The service and response refers to the Emergency Protection Program which NRCS administers when there is threat to life and property caused by natural disasters. Almost $15 million has been allocated for both clean-up efforts in Kentucky, affecting well over 63 counties.

Both technical and financial assistance was provided to many of the Commonwealth’s communities to remove debris from watershed and drainage ways and for the installation of soil stabilization practices.
