Derek Beard, left, from Fish & Wildlife Service spoke to the crowd about Wildlife Habitat Improvement Program (WHIP). The Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program is a voluntary cost share program for people who want to develop and improve wildlife habitat on private land. NRCS provides both technical assistance and cost-share assistance to establish and improve fish and wildlife habitat.

  

 

 

 

 

 

 A large used equipment tire with a poured concrete bottom serves as a livestock watering tank. The tire tank has a total holding capacity of 900 gallons.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Myron Evans, left and Glen Abney, right (NRCS Agronomist) gave a presentation on the quick-connect watering system utilized in the bottom land. Notice Gama Grass (with Rag Weed) in background. Stand is to be rotationally grazed next year.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Richard Bowling, left, NRCS District Conservationist for Harrison and Pendleton Counties wrapped the program up with an overview of practices available through Farm Bill programs such as CRP, WHIP and EQIP as well as State Cost Share.

The Southeast Community College Streambank Stabilization Project, located in Letcher County was completed in August.

The project was funded by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, while NRCS provided all technical assistance.
