NRCS CHIEF LANCASTER ANNOUNCES THE EXTENSION OF THE CONSERVATION SECURITY PROGRAM (CSP) SIGN-UP TO MAY 30, 2008
(Lexington, Ky.) May 7, 2008—Michael Hubbs, State Conservationist for U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Kentucky said NRCS' Chief Arlen Lancaster
announced the extension of the 2008 Conservation Security Program (CSP) sign-up period to May 30, 2008.
Fifty-one watersheds were selected nationwide. In Kentucky, it is the Red River Watershed which includes parts of Christian, Todd, Logan and Simpson counties in Kentucky and is shared with five Tennessee counties and covers over 330,000 acres.
Hubbs said, "This extension will allow those who have been very busy
in their fields this spring to have a little more time to enroll."
CSP is offered on a rotational basis in as many watersheds as funding allows and is authorized by the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 (2002 Farm Bill) (PL 107-171), and is administered by USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).
