FARM AND RANCH LANDS PROTECTION PROGRAM SIGNUP ANNOUNCED

USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Kentucky has received $2.5 million funding and is accepting applications for the Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program (FRPP).

Five watershed areas are within Kentucky.

Kentucky Small, Limited Resource, Minority Farmers Conference - November 17-19

Kentucky State University will host the Annual Conference in Frankfort.  This year's theme: "Revitalizing the Small Family Farm in a Stressed Economy."  

Sponsors include: Kentucky State University, Kentucky Department of Agriculture, Kentucky Division of Conservation, Kentucky Division of Forestry, University of Kentucky-College of Agriculture and USDA and agencies:  Office of Outreach, Natural Resources Conservation Service Rural Development, Farm Service Agency, National Agriculture Statistics Service Risk Management Agency, Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education.

Mississippi River Basin Healthy Watersheds Initiative

On September 23, 2009, USDA Secretary Vilsack announced a new initiative to improve water quality and the overall health of the Mississippi River Basin.  Kentucky is one of 12 states included in the $80 million a year initiative for Fiscal Years 2010 through 2013.

All eligible landowners are encouraged to sign-up for the funding by visiting their local NRCS office.

The sign-up, originally announced March 7, will close April 10, 2009.
